Manual Handling – 1 day
Under health and safety legislation, there is a duty to identify where this shifting could lead to a significant risk of injury and then to take common sense measures to reduce the risk. The relevant legislation is the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended).
The manual handling course is aimed at all levels of employees who may undertake manual handling operations. Manual handling accidents account for more than a third of all accidents reported each year to the enforcing authorities. It is estimated that in excess of 500,000 people in Great Britain suffer from a musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) mainly affecting the upper limbs or neck that was caused, or made worse, by their current or past work. Avoidance of the shifting is always the best option, typically followed by the use of machinery. However, for most businesses, physical handling by people will always be required for some tasks – as will manual handling training, to ensure that they do it as safely as possible.
